MILAN FASHION WEEK : Gucci SS13

Nice to see a bit of color on the catwalk this season and Gucci were not the brand I would have expected to launch a bright and brilliant collection like this!

I always associate Gucci with the 70s. This is because of two things - one- I used to have a big advert from the 70s for a Gucci handbag on my wall and two - I remember the 70s trend that went around for a season and how Gucci started, kept it going and then clung to it once it was over. Oh and they dressed Florence and her Machine for one of her tours. But I see more of the 60s in this collection. The dress above makes me think of the scene in a recent episode of Mad Men where Rodger experiments with LSD and his girlfriend has an amazing jumpsuit on.

Gucci didn't mix colors in this collection. You were all about the block colors. No prints or clashing colors. It was about bright, cheerful almost highlighter tones on the catwalk. However what is overlooked about the collection is the easy of styling. The shape, styling and cut of the clothes is again, very simple. Fashion is sick of fiddly bits and pieces this season and wants to bring about a season of change and simplicity. It's a modern woman who is moving quickly and needs her wardrobe to work for her. She doesn't have time to fix straps or correct lengths or fold cuffs. She needs simplicity and she needs it now.
